VBS Upgrade

ZebraLast night was the final evening of Vacation Bible School.  In my memory, VBS was fun but has it ever been upgraded.  The last night of VBS was a big night.  Why?  A cup of red Koo-lade and a big cookie.  We left that long ago…

This church has an incredible VBS every year.  This year the theme was something like, "Kids Go Wild."   Not really– I think that it was "Kids Go Wild About Jesus."  The whole thing had a jungle theme.  This meant that these classrooms were transformed into various kinds of jungle rooms.

Last night was the night where the kids went outside and enjoyed the inflatable slide, face painting, and other fun stuff.  There was even a live zebra for the kids to pet.  (Earlier, before VBS began for the evening, one little boy kept tugging at his Daddy wanting him to come outside and look at the zebra.  The dad looked at the little boy in disbelief–as I would have done–and then realized there really was a zebra outside.)  Sweaty kids with red faces laughed and laughed in the balmy, 95 degree Texas evening, all of them having a wonderful time.

All of this kind of make me wonder, "How many other things are going to get upgraded?"  Or maybe, as I suspect, I have been enjoying the upgraded version of a lot of other things.   Things that I just take for granted.

Of course, some things never change.  Some things will probably not need updated.  Last night, I was walking by the zebra and from a distance Jamie was motioning frantically to me.  A little girl, somewhere between 5-7 years old was beside her looking very nauseous.  Jamie was asking me what to do.  "I think I would get her to a restroom pretty quick."

95 degrees.  Too much lemonade, candy, and a mix of other snacks were a bit too much for her.

Now that has never been updated.

  1. Mix in the aroma of a wild zebra and even I would get nauseous! Good thoughts on “upgrading.” Everyone is always interested in having their “things” be the latest and the greatest…but it’s sad that we, as Christians, become satisfied with using the “old version.”
