Places I’ve Been

Admissions counselors for pre-schoolers?  Hmmm.

From Stanford University’s magazine (April/May 2007) an interesting article by a Stanford psychologist, Carol Dweck, on her thirty year study on why some children succeed and others don’t.  Interesting.

Check out this interview in Leadership Journal’s "Out of Ur" with author Phyllis Tickle.

Remember Jim Jones leader of "Jones-town"?  Read this interesting interview with his son who is now 47 years old.

  1. The interview with Jim Jones’ son is fascinating. His ability to see both the good and the bad in his childhood is remarkable.

My own mom was (is) mentally ill; my memory of sitting in healing services as a very young child are still with me. We used to go to one after another while they either tried to cast the “demons” out of her or prayed for her healing. As a child, I was terrified of these services. As an adult, I weep — if just one so-called “healer” had recognized the signs of schizophrenia and recommended appropriate medical care and medication, maybe her life, and my childhood, would have been different.
