What You Need to Know to Make Life Work  #1

(Written especially for middle school/high school boys, particularly my grandsons)

You are a man of God.  God is with you always.  Know the following about yourself regardless of your age:

  • You can do this.
  • You are enough.  (Pay no attention to the put downs from others.)
  • You are just right. (You are the way God made you.)

Prepare for your future.  This is the willingness to do now what you know will be needed in the future.  Your preparation comes down to how you spend your time each day.

Be an “everyday guy.” Don’t wait until the night before the test or game to prepare.  What matters is what you do every day that will move you toward your goal.  Choose wisely how you use your time.

Some guys have poor everyday habits (no reading, no preparation, no hard work, no study, etc.).  Others have powerful everyday habits (prayer/Bible reading daily, studying each day, always reading and thinking).  What will you choose?

Take care of your business.

  • You are responsible for bringing your own water.
  • You are responsible for locking up your stuff.
  • You are responsible for getting ready for school or work the night before.
  • You are responsible for asking questions if you don’t understand.

Make no excuses – to your coach, your teachers, or your parent(s).  If you want to experience success don’t make excuses, instead get to work.  God will help you.  You can do hard things!

Choose a positive attitude.  Smile.  Talk about what is good and right.  Be grateful and thankful for what you DO have.  Leaders and men of God live with a positive attitude that constantly expresses appreciation and thankfulness.
