What Jesus Said That Christians Neglect

For example, this week I have been reading Luke 6. I came across these words, which I have read many times:
"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you …"
Now these words are not new to me. Again, I’ve read them many, many times. I may need to ask, however, "Am I serious about living out these words?"
I’m curious. As you read the words of Jesus in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, what does Jesus say that far too many churches and individual Christians ignore or neglect?
Luke chapters 6, 12 & 14 are some of the most challenging chapters in the Bible. The one you quoted, who to have over for dinner (14:12), giving Jesus priority over family (14:26), also 12:33 – sell your possessions and give to the poor. Ever since I studied Luke under Dr. Mark Black, I have realized that Jesus is calling for a radical discipleship and sacrifice that I have rarely if ever lived up to. But these chapters also contain some of the greatest words of encouragement and hope. Powerful stuff.
So much of Matthew…..we spend a ton of energy, investment and time making sure we provide for tomorrow, next year, 25 years in the future etc…Jesus tells us over and over again, that we should not be anxious about what we will wear, or eat, or where we will live…

That his disciples would be known by their love for one another. We tend to be known more for our stand on doctrinal issues and for our disunity than our love. We’re getting better, though, and that’s encouraging.
Jesus prayed fervently just prior to his betrayal and arrest that his believers would be one. Perhaps the most neglected words of all:
‘i am praying not only for these disciples, but also for all who will ever believe…….that they will all be one just as you and I are one……….May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me……….. (see John 17)
