Consequences

Dead_end "If…then

Now those are two important words.  "If…then"

These two words remind us that our actions have consequences.  You know some of the consequences without me having to spell it out.  Think for a moment about these actions and then in your mind think about the resulting consequences:

  • If you generally speed on the highway, you will eventually get…
  • If you waste your money, never practicing any self-discipline, you will eventually…
  • If you never exercise, and pay no attention to what you eat then you will eventually…
  • If you work long, long, hours and spend little time with your children then eventually…
  • If you flirt with sin and get as close as you can then eventually…
  • If you rarely read your Bible, and only pray when you are in trouble, you can’t expect to…
  • If you only show up for an assembly once a week then you probably won’t feel…
  • If you keep everyone at arms length, trying to control every relationship, then others probably will not feel very…
  • If you are a college student and choose to be with your friends instead of study then don’t be surprised when you get your grades and find that you have received a…

I suppose I could go on and on. 

There are consequences to our actions.  There are consequences to our children’s actions.  So–maybe the most natural question is, "Where will I be when I get where I am going?"

  1. Do you think people focus much on where they are headed? I seem to think most of us are so caught up in the ‘now’ … and some of us in the ‘way back when’ … that few of us are left to consider the ‘then this will happen’ aspect of our actions.
